Things are kind of weird at Jack Bailey's new job. Mysterious implants. Deranged co-workers. Non-terrestrial biologics. Brain-melting distortions of reality.

At first, Jack can't believe his luck when he signs a contract to work as a Project Manager at DesicCan, the world's second largest manufacturer of desiccant silica gel packets. He's been desperately job-hunting for months and is staring down the barrel of some serious cash problems. His wife is a music teacher who's going deaf, his aging father may soon need expensive full-time care, and his teenage daughter wants to attend a university that costs more money than Jack's ever made in his life.

DesicCan offers him an eye-popping salary. When he starts work, though, the world of silica gel packet project management turns out to be a lot stranger and more sinister than he'd imagined. Managing "The Project" pulls Jack into a bureaucratic fever-dream that threatens his identity, morals, relationships—and ultimately his whole world.
